Traditional Schützenfest of the St. Pantaleon Schützenbruderschaft in the Münster district of Roxel
Roxel is a district of Münster located to the west in the Münsterland, the rural northern part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. With just under 9,000 inhabitants, Roxel is one of the tradition-conscious suburbs of the Westphalian metropolis — characterized by agriculture, but easily accessible from Münster via the federal highway in just a few minutes. Like many Münsterland suburbs, Roxel has its own Schützenbruderschaft with a long history and a firm place in club life.
The St. Pantaleon Schützenbruderschaft Roxel e.V. is named after Saint Pantaleon — an early Christian martyr and patron saint of doctors, who is also the patron of the Roxel parish church of the same name. The brotherhood has been committed to the social initiative Kleine Oase (Little Oasis) since 1973, a children's facility in Nordkirchen — over the years, more than €160,000 has been donated. This makes the brotherhood not only a shooting and festival club but also a social actor.
The Schützenfest follows the classic Westphalian choreography and spans four days (Friday to Monday). The venue is the large festival tent on Tilbecker Straße, opposite Holzschuhmacherweg — a central location in the village. The brotherhood sets up the tent themselves (setup starts Thursday, June 25, 2026, 4:00 PM) and is available voluntarily throughout the festival week. The reigning shooting king (2025/2026 season: Florian Hartke after 670 shots, Queen Lea Giebel) represents the brotherhood at events throughout the year.
A Schützenfest of this size thrives on a well-rehearsed dramaturgy. The 2026 program is expected to include:
The Münsterland region is one of the areas in Germany with the most Schützenfeste. Almost every village has a brotherhood, each with its own annual festival, its own traditional attire, its own songs, and its own marching music sequences. Visitors to Roxel will not experience a Volksfest spectacle marketed regionally, but the authentic form of Westphalian Schützen culture: well-maintained, intergenerational, closely linked to the parish, socially engaged, and always connected with a strong sense of home. Prominent guest appearances, such as TV personality Harry Wijnvoord (who hosted prize games in previous editions), add humorous accents — but the heart remains the citizens of Roxel themselves.
The 2026 Schützenfest of the St. Pantaleon Schützenbruderschaft Roxel e.V. will take place from June 26 to 29, 2026, in Münster-Roxel. The setup of the festival tent begins on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 4:00 PM.
